"Why I chose Dr. Vu as my orthodontist

An advanced professional

Before having braces, I often asked brace wearers for information and knew that this was a long breath taking treatment, 2 years in average, 4 to 5 years if complication happened. Sometimes improper treatments would cause bad side effects. Therefore, I made a lot of researches, and carefully deliberated before making the final decision. When looking for orthodontic doctors from Nguoi Viet Yearbook, I wondered about the meaning of Board Eligible, title advertised by quite a few orthodontists. Through Google.com, I understood that Board Eligible is only the intermediate step allowing the orthodontist to take the examination to become Board Certified (Diplomate), the top title in the orthodontics profession. Difficulties of the process to become Board Certified holdback a lot of Board Eligibles from becoming Board Certified. Therefore, only 26% of orthodontists in the States are Board Certified.
I wanted to be treated by a Board Certified orthodontist and found Dr. Hung Vu.
Besides being Board Certified, Dr. Vu possesses very advanced, solid scientific, technical backgrounds directly related to his orthodontic specialty. Braces are mechanical tool using force to move wrongly placed teeth. Dr Vu has a M.S. degree in Mechanic Engineering from M.I.T. - a world class institution. M.I.T. students are usually excellent. In fact, the importance of graduating from this elite environment is not the knowledge which will be out of date very soon in an ever changing tech world; but it is the confidence, the spirit of grand thinking, the vision, the learning, solving skills, the habits of working to achieve excellence. These attributes are necessary in any intellectual work and help the professionals progress in their career. Dr. Vu earned his Ph.D. in Applied Mechanics from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor); this gives him a reflex of thorough thinking in other intellectual domains. Being a Ph.D. in Applied Mechanics gives Dr. Vu better calculating, conceptualizing capabilities in comparison to a normal orthodontist; this allows him to use brace techniques more efficiently to achieve optimal result, because braces are an application of Applied Mechanics.
Dr. Vu is now a clinical assistant professor in orthodontics at the University of Southern California (USC).
Communication & clear explanations from Dr. Vu
Before meeting Dr. Vu, I consulted another orthodontist, it’s a big difference between the 2 free consultations from 2 doctors.
One only explained sparely about braced time, treatment procedures, no explanation on the pros and cons of each kind of braces. It's a one way communication with distilled information.
Dr. Vu gave me - a teacher, and my husband - an engineer who is very curious, interested in different domains, a pleasant surprise, and a good impression in the first consultation. First, he asked me some introductory questions to catch the spirit of my wishes, intentions. He explained the advantages and disadvantages of each choice; he was open for questions and answered perfectly all our questions. Especially, his answers were of common sense - at the same time assuring technical requirements, but also taking into account the constraints of everyday life; these were not answers from university nor from ivory tower, these were answers from someone who understands the subject, and explains with simplicity. My husband, who frequently faces contradictions or differences between books and realities liked the way Dr. Vu answered. Myself, I was pleased with Dr. Vu’s approach and explanations. Confident, we did not need further consultations with other orthodontists, and I began the treatment with Dr. Vu right away, few minutes after the first consultation.
Reasonable treatment fee
Because bracing is a long time treatment leading to a life-time result, we consider the quality of treatment our first priority, price is secondary one. We were prepared to pay a higher price for a Board Certified - and a good doctor, we are very happy to pay an equal or lower price when comparing with other orthodontists."

"I see many other orthodontist before I came to Dr Vu hoping to get my teeth "straighten", many other orthodontist just emphasized on the fact that I need to put on the braces and make my teeth straight, failing to inform me of my periodontal problems. Dr. Vu was different, he recognized the problem and potential complications and as well educate me on the situation, and refuse to start the treatment until it is address or else ortho treatment will escalate the problem. That some commitments to the patient!

Not only is he is a good doctor, but also friendly and work with his patient to accommodate their financial situation. "Tại sao tôi lựa chọn bác sĩ Hùng Vũ 

Khả năng chuyên môn cao

Trước khi niềng răng, tôi thường hỏi han những người đã mang braces và biết đây là một chữa trị lâu dài, trung bình khoảng 2 năm, và có thể kéo dài tới 4, 5 năm nếu trục trặc; đôi khi sự chữa trị không đúng cách còn có thể gây ra những hậu qủa phụ không tốt, do đó tôi tìm hiểu kỹ càng, cân nhắc trước khi bắt đầu. Khi tìm bác sĩ chuyên khoa niềng răng từ niên giám Người Việt, tôi rất thắc mắc về ý nghĩa của chữ Board Eligible mà một số Orthodontists Việt, Mỹ dùng. Dùng Google.com để tìm hiểu ý nghĩa của chữ này, tôi được biết Board Eligible chỉ là bước sẵn sàng (eligible) cho phép người Orthodontist dự thi để trở thành Board Certified (Diplomate) là bước sau cùng, cao nhất. Vì sự phức tạp, khó khăn để trở thành Board Certified nên có nhiều Board Eligible sẽ không bao giờ đi tiếp để thành Board Certified. Do đó ở Mỹ cứ 100 bác sĩ chuyên khoa Orthodontist thì chỉ có 26 người là Board Certified.

Tôi muốn được chữa trị bởi một Board Certified of Orthodontics và tìm ra bác sĩ Hùng Vũ.

Ngoài sự kiện bác sĩ Hùng Vũ là Board Certified, ông còn thủ đắc những kiến thức khoa học cao, vững chắc, có liên quan trực tiếp tới chuyên khoa Orthodontics của ông. Dụng cụ niềng răng là một dụng cụ cơ học, dùng lực để di chuyển răng mọc xiên lệch tới vị trí mới. Bác sĩ Hùng Vũ tốt nghiệp M.S. về cơ khi (Mechanical Engineering) tại viện kỹ thuật hàng đầu thế giới M.I.T. Sinh viên tại M.I.T thường là bằng chứng của sự xuất sắc. Sự trao đổi, giải thích tường tận của bác sĩ

Trước khi gặp bác sĩ Hùng Vũ, tôi đã tham khảo một bác sĩ Orthodontist khác, thật là khác biệt  khi so sánh 2 cuộc tham khảo miễn phí đầu tiên của 2 bác sĩ.

Một người chỉ giải thích sơ sài về thời gian niềng, cách chữa trị một cách rất tổng quát, hoàn toàn không có một lời giải thích về những điểm lợi cũng như hại của từng dụng cụ, phương pháp. 

Bác sĩ Hùng Vũ đã cho tôi – một cô giáo, và nhà tôi – là một kỹ sư nhưng quan tâm, thắc mắc tới nhiều lãnh vực khác nhau, một sự ngạc nhiên thích thú, một ấn tượng sâu sắc, thật tốt trong lần tham khảo đầu tiên. Trước tiên ông nêu câu hỏi mở đường cho tôi để nắm lấy cái hồn của ý muốn, ông giải thích lợi, hại của từng lựa chọn, và trả lời tường tận tất cả các câu hỏi mà chúng tôi đặt ra. Đặc biệt là những câu trả lời của ông có tính lương thức (common sense), vừa bảo đảm những yêu cầu chuyên môn cần thiết cho việc chữa trị tốt, nhưng đồng thời cũng tính tới những hạn chế của đời sống thực tế, không chỉ là những câu trả lời từ giảng đường đại  học hay tháp ngà trí thức. Nhà tôi, vốn cọ sát nhiều với những mâu thuẫn giữa sách vở và thực tế nên rất thích lối trả lời này. Bản thân tôi, hài lòng với phương cách tiếp cận, giải thích của bác sĩ Hùng Vũ. An tâm, tôi bắt đầu chữa trị ngay trong buổi tham khảo đầu tiên.

Chi phí phải chăng

Đối với chúng tôi phẩm chất chữa trị là ưu tiên một, chi phí là thứ yếu, nhất là khi phải theo đuổi một quá trình trị liệu trong một thời gian rất dài để có một kết qủa tồn tại suốt đời. Chúng tôi đã chuẩn bị tư tưởng để trả một giá cao hơn cho một Board Certified, do đó chúng tôi rất vui khi chi trả  một chi phí bằng hoặc thấp hơn so với những orthodontists khác."
