Who We Are

Dr. Vu obtained his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Washington then earned his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Massachussetts Institute of Technology (MIT).  After MIT,  Dr. Vu received his Ph.D. in Applied Mechanics from The University of Michigan (Ann Arbor).  It can be said that Applied Mechanics is a combination of Applied Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering. 

Dr. Vu earned his DDS from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and Orthodontic Specialty from New York University (NYU).  

Dr. Vu is a board-certified specialist (Diplomate, American Board of Orthodontics) in Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics for Children and Adults. This disctintion is achieved by about 1 out of 4 orthodontists.  Dr. Vu is also a Certified Invisalign Specialist. 

Currently, Dr. Vu is Professor in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at CSULB.  Dr. Vu held faculty positions as Clinical Assistant Professor in Orthodontics at USC and Associate Professor in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at UCLA.  As an active scholar and educator, Dr. Vu has written a few textbooks and numerous scientific articles.

As an expert in the theory and applications of finite-element modeling in orthodontics, Dr. Vu serves as a reviewer for the American Journal of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics.  He is a member of the following organizations: ABO (American Board of Orthodontics), AAO (American Association of Orthodontists), CAO (California Association of Orthodontists), PCSO (Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists), ADA (American Dental Association), CDA (California Dental Association), OCDS (Orange County Dental Society).  Locally, he is an active member of Fountain Valley Chamber of Commerce.

The background of having a Ph.D. in Applied Mechanics together with being a full professor in Mechanical Engineering and Clinical Assistant Professor in Orthodontics has served Dr. Vu extremely well in treating orthodontic patients. 

This truly unique background enables Dr. Vu to have a crystal-clear understanding of all types of mechanics associated with teeth movement.  As a result, the treatment plan and the treatment itself have been optimized for all the patients.  As a passionate orthodontist, Dr. Vu has earned the reputation of  being "The Best Doctor" and "Doctor Painless" by his patients. 

In addition to wining numerous awards, Dr. Vu won the First-Place Award in Postgraduate Resident Research in Orthodontics, New York University: "Theoretical Basis and Clinical Applications of V-Bends in Orthodontics, including Finite Element Models."  This work has significantly improved the understanding of certain mechanics that are used with braces.
